Shattered Spear, An Aeldari/Grey Knights Battle Report

Image
Well... that didn't go according to plan. An exercise in not being too over confident in your own abilities, but at the same time a moment of pride as a student finally learns his army. This was a battle I had with a student in the club, and I'm really pleased with the result in a number of ways! However, I'm also now acutely aware of problems in my army list building. The Aeldar Craftworld Wild Riders of the Bright Spear flotilla faced against a small force of the Emperor's Hammer, the Grey Knights of Titan. Here are the forces: The Bright Spear Wild Riders Outrider Detachment (Aeldar Craftworld) Craftworld Attribute: Saim-Hann Wild Host (Re-roll Charges, Bikers can move and shoot Heavy Weapons without penalty) HQ Autarch Skyrunner: Laser Lance (Nova Lance), Twin-linked Shuriken Catapult [108 pts] Farseer Skyrunner: Singing Spear, Twin-linked Shuriken Catapult Psyker: Doom, Fortune, Smite [140 pts] Troops Ranger Squad: 5 Rangers with Long...

School's League 2017: First Warhammer 40K Skirmishes

Image
Absolutely rammed at the moment, which is why the blog is updating so sporadically. However, it does not mean nothing is happening (only that my statistics are steadily getting worse... grumble grumble). Here are a few shots of the first 40K skirmishes in the club, including a few from a quick starter match I ran for raw neophytes. All the painted models in these pictures are from student Initiates. The only ones left base coated are mine or club models... teacher needs to catch up on his painting! There was actually a game played with that last picture, but people forgot which models were theirs. It turned into an absolute mess, where random numbers of dice were being rolled, and unit cohesion was lost altogether. Cultists were flailing around randomly, with new cultists being brought to the field as players tried to work out what casualties should have stayed on the field. On the upside, I think I just created a mini-game to play out the Ork Mob-rule ...

Schools League 2017: The First Age of Sigmar Skirmishes

Image
The club started a few days ago, and I have some time to upload some of the images from the first few skirmishes. There are some odd alliances popping up, and students get out all their new toys gathered over Summer. We're kicking off with the Age of Sigmar mosh pit, with Stormcast Eternals rubbing shoulders with Bloodbound against Serphon and Kharadron Overlords.     As you can see, a complete mess of a battle, with some very dodgy interpretations of the rules. But it's beautiful to see for the simple fact that I had no part in it. The senior Initiates set it up themselves, giving the new player Neophytes units to roll dice with, and I was able to marshal a game for the absolute raw beginners. I think we're off to a flying start this year, and I can't wait for the next session to get some team training going! Until next time. Thanks for reading. If you liked what you saw, and you want to help ...

Fate of Konor: Astramis Battle Report

Image
No word on the winner at my local shop yet This, is Astramis.  Astramis is home to a key star port for the Konor system, named for Guilliman's adoptive father on Macragge. A large hive world, this represents a large population centre in Ultramar. This is where Chaos has landed first, and where Guilliman has arrived to defend his home. This is where the Mu'gulath Bay Avengers have come to seek revenge for their burned home world: Avengers assemble! Having donned the blue of T'au blood, these are grim faced and determined soldiers. Their leader, the yet-to-be named Ethereal, holds aloft the new symbol for Mu'Gulath Bay... a single blue jewel wreathed in orange flame. At once both sombre about their history and hopeful for the bright future they won defending their home, they look across the battlefield to see who else has landed. That guy in the back is a lictor Really big gun Huge biomechanical monstrostiies roamed to shattered ...

8th Edition Thousand Sons vs. Eldar Battle Report by Unknown

Image
This battle report is courtesy of Unknown, who left it as a comment on my breakdown of the Thousand Sons in 8th Edition . Thank very much for leaving it there! Unknown: I ran Magnus, Ahriman, 1 Exalted Sorcerer on disc, 2 x 5 man rubrics. He ran Eldrad, a hemlock fighter, 3 warlocks in 3 small units with the cannons, and 2 walkers. Turn 1  His impressive amount of weaponry took out my poorly positioned Ahriman I wanted to bait shots to avoid losing Magnus, but should have used my Exalted Sorcerer instead. His hemlock removed two of the rubrics from 1 squad, and a poor roll on battle shock took another, but he couldn't smite me through my wall of denial. My turn 1 I advanced, set the exalted sorcerer and the remainder of the marine squad to work on the hemlock, then advanced Magnus, who lost his chance to charge Eldrad due to the boxcar denial versus Warptime. Sites are a unit of his and 5 of 6 versus the hemlock. Turn 2  He unleashed everything versus...

Thousand Sons vs. Tau Battle Report: Knowledge is power!

Image
Knowledge is power! As you can probably guess from that title image... things went quite well for my Three Musketeers! This was the first outing of my starter Thousand Sons army. At only 450 points, it's nect to impossible to fit Rubricae in any meaningful way, but there is enough to lay down some serious psychic artillery. The Three Musketeers (War Cabal Formation) Athos: ML 2 Sorcerer, Mark of Tzeentch, Veteran of the Long War, Bike, Force Stave [120 points] Porthos: ML 2 Sorcerer, Mark of Tzeentch, Veteran of the Long War, Bike, Force Stave [120 points] Aramis: ML 2 Sorcerer, Mark of Tzeentch, Veteran of the Long War, Bike, Force Stave [120 points] D'Artangnan: ML 1 Sorcerer, Mark of Tzeentch, Veteran of the Long War, Jump Pack, Force Stave [90 points] TOTAL: 450 points This is the very definition of high risk, high reward, as they stand a good chance of getting tabled in turn one. Rocking the Telepathy discipline, and harnessing charges...
