9th Edition Newcrons Explained!

Image
I remember when Necrons only had Warriors... and no fluff. I also remember Chaos Necrons. Such things are weird in modern 40K. Hello chaps and chapettes, we're back in the classroom to discuss the new 9th Edition models for Necrons (apart from the Skorpehk Destroyer which I talk about here ). There has been a glut of new models for the Necrons released, and probably about time too. Let's just do a side by side comparison of the update ones before looking at the new: From Sprues and Brews And the old ones: From Games Workshop Webstore Interesting thing from this is the movement away from the clear plastic tubes that Necrons used to have as an exclusive and faction determining trait. Why? Well, customisation of course. The old green plastic pretty much locked you into a particular colour pallette, which meant Your Dudes always had at least one thing in common with Other Players Dudes. Or at least that is the benefit to you. For Games Workshop it means they can r...

First Look: Skorpehk Destroyer Analysis!

Image
Can I make a whole blog post of extrapolation from a single data point? You bet I can! Hello chaps and chapettes, we're back in the classroom to look at the latest reveal from Warhammer Community, and vastly overthink a single stat block to predict the future. I know it feels like we never leave the classroom, and that's because updates come thick and fast in this Warhammer world. Here's the fella in question: Intimidating, and wielding a very big glowing sword. On three legs. War of the Worlds meets Breath of the Wild! I very much like the design, but we're here to think about how this is going to affect your game. We have a nice stat block to look over too, which will tell you everything you need to know about this guy. Ouch. No seriously, ouch.  That Hyperphase Reap-blade effectively a Thunder Hammer wielded by a Guardsmen, and that's assuming the base model is strength 4. With a build like that we could easily be looking at a base strength of 5 for that guy, m...

BREAKING NEWS: New Warhammer 40K 9th Edition video released

Image
Well not really breaking news, but I'm playing catch up and I like to think I add something beyond just click bait news. Hello chaps and chapettes, we're back in the classroom to discuss a recent video release for the new edition. You know how video games and movies release trailers to get you all hyped up. Well Games Workshop have released a trailer for 9th Edition to get you all hyped up. And it works too. Go watch it now on Warhammer Community , then come back here for the analysis. Or stay and watch the embedded version here! We start with Guardsmen doing what they do best, holding the Emperor's damn line, and getting one shot killed by literally anything else in the 40K universe. Now I'm sure you've noticed the "controversial" or "progressive" addition to this trailer. And I'm right with you on this one. I know exactly how you feel about the inclusion of the female Guardsman. And I for one won't stand for it. Everyone knows that fe...

Necrons and The Future Chapter Tactic of the Space Wolves?

Image
I have to admit, I've always been fascinated by the Sons of Fenris. In them the grim dark of 40K perfectly fuses with the silliness and conceits of the setting. Of course there are space viking werewolves, and of course they're hard drinking and yet loyal to a fault. And of course, they are a dying light of optimism in the galaxy after losing their home world. This is the original Grim Dark universe after all. Their fluff is excellent, but I wanted to talk about some crunch today and engage in some speculation about their best potential Chapter Tactic. Currently, they only have one warlord trait, and two stratagems. They have their own psychic discipline too, but it's a little on the weak side now. Warlord trait Saga of the Warrior born:  I'm not sure about its utility. It allows you to always fight first, unless another unit gets to do so for charging first or has a similar ability. Not bad, but you'd need to keep your warlord in melee all the time. ...

BREAKING NEWS: 8th Edition FAQ and Errata Released!!

Image
And here I thought I was going to have nothing new to post about for 8th Edition. The FAQ is already up over at Warhammer Community . New FAQ artwork It's genuinely surprising that we have an FAQ out so early, but this is New Games Workshop in action. One might question why a new FAQ was needed so early after release, but very few games try to re-write every single one of their factions in one go. Well, except Games Workshop with Age of Sigmar, but they coped with that with the infamous special rules where you had to twirl your moustache, or got bonus attacks if your opponent had a pet. As in a real pet, not on the table top. It was not well received. On to the FAQs.I haven't had time to go through in detail, but I've given you some observations that have leapt out at me in each one. Link here Important extra rule for the Death Guard here, giving them the universal Traitor Marine rule they have in the Index. Link here The immediate FAQ point tha...

Daemon Tau and The Busiest Corner of the Galaxy

Image
Oddly enough Warzone Damocles, about as far from Holy Terra as you can get, is probably the most hotly contested area of the galaxy. And that's not just because it used to be on fire. A few days ago, Games Workshop released some information on this warzone, and it's future in the unfolding plot of the new Warp Rift divided Milky Way. It turns out the Cicatrix Maledictum doused the fires that the AdMech had started in a fine display of rage-quitting the fight for Mugalath Bay. In case you're wondering which side I'm on in this contest: Farsight Enclave Tau were my first army... before I realised how badly it curb stomped my student neophytes, prompting me to look for less awesome forces. It looks like the Tau are back on the offensive, what with the Imperium needing to fight off Chaos, Tyranids, Necrons, and the good old Orks who Commander Farsight made his name clearing off of Tau worlds. This makes the Damocles Gulf the busiest part of the Milk...
