8th Edition 40K Dark Eldar

Image
Poor Dark Eldar. More unrepentantly evil than Chaos, with absolutely no redeeming morality. Even Khorne, the god of murder and blood can claim the honour of a warrior. The DEldar have no such grey area. They were the nightmare of planets, striking without warning and faster than shadow. Pillaging and despoiling whatever scant life they could find, saving morsels of sadistic pleasure for the long trip home before banqueting in great orgies of suffering in the Commoragh arenas. Truly a terror and trauma for anyone. In the fluff. On table top people claimed great respect for winning anything with these fun-loving sadists. Despite hitting like a lightning bolt they would generally fall down in a stiff breeze, even their "tanks" getting glanced to death by bolter fire. That looks set to change, with some of the 8th Edition changes. I was going to base this post off the reveals on the Warhammer Community page, but it looks like we have a better leak from Can Hammer

8th Edition 40K, Tau Battle suits

Image
The leaks are coming in faster than my posting schedule and other commitments can allow! I'm not unconvinced this isn't an underhanded marketing ploy by Games Workshop in the run up to pre-orders going live this weekend, but whatever is causing this deluge of leaks, I can't comment on all of it before it becomes irrelevant. I did want to speak about the Tau leaked info, and what this means to me. Taken from Faeit 212 : As expected, the deep strike is still there. It's been flavoured to a drop from a Manta ship, but this kind of safe drop is going to be utterly amazing for crisis suit squads. The Fly special rule is there, and even the Bonding Knife Ritual is amazing, getting rid of a potential squad wipe from bad rolls. Toughness 5 and 3 wounds is nothing but the best kind of upgrade, making these suits tougher than those already broken Primaris Inceptors. Put on top of that upgrades to 3 missile pods per suit, and you have a terrifying unit, even before mar

Primaris Space Marine Paint Planner

Image
The good chaps over at Games Workshop marketing have just released a bit of fluff on the Ultima Founding, the latest crop of Space Marine chapters. These are all based around the Primaris Space Marines, so expect your current Marines to fade away. Again, not a bad thing, as it's just a shift to True Scale Space Marines that still lets you play with your old stuff whilst you transition. To help you buy their new models, Games Workshop have also given you a nifty line drawing of a Primaris Space Marine, so you can plan your new Chapter. Now I'm certain they didn't intend to add all those little gaps in the lines making it hard for you to use simple drawing editors to plan your marines on computer, nor did they realise how difficult it would be to do so on .pdf format. So I fixed it for them. Here's the same thing with the gaps filled in, and in easy to edit .jpeg format. Don't worry Gee Dubs... Tabletop Teacher's got your back! UPDATE: The .jpeg was

BREAKING NEWS: Primaris Space Marine Datasheets!

Image
*face palm* Oh come on, why even bother making assault marines?! Games Workshop, in the latest carriage of the hype train, has revealed the data sheets for the Primaris Space Marines that you get in the starter box set... well minus the Hellblaster volley squad. The Captain in Gravis Armour is below: An interesting character, his ability makes Marines around him more accurate. Re-rolling ones To-Hit is great for both melee and shooting. The wording looks like it's only for friendly units, but I think at the top of any FAQ in the future would be "Does the Captain get the benefit of his Rites of Battle ability?" An important question, as re-rolling 1s on a 2+ To-Hit is just a tad on the over-powered side. The Gravis armour is kind of a half-centurion suit. As far as I can tell from the stats, it gives +1 to Toughness, but keeps the save value the same. Any Nurgle player can tell you just how valuable that extra toughness is, and in new 8th Edition wound

BREAKING NEWS: 8th Edition 40K Missions Explained!

Image
Whilst it's not as exciting as weapons rules, or as glamorous as new models, what can make or break a system in a game is actually the game you play. Which means the context in which you push around your plastic soldiers. Frankly, it's also the hardest bit to sell to neophyte students. They're generally champing at the bit to just roll dice at the other person until everything's dead. Games Workshop has given players like that a simple battle system to follow: Only War. Because that's in the 40K tag line. This is similar to the Age of Sigmar freebie rules mission, and is designed for quick games with new players or just people who want to roll dice at each other until the other guy is dead. Well that's a bit unfair. Unlike the Age of Sigmar mission, this has objectives. We keep seeing 40K as being like AoS but with more complexity, and this is an example of just that. AoS also launhed without any way to balance armies. Having learned from th

8th Edition 40K Rules Summary

Image
We have had a huge amount of information dumped over the past few weeks, and despite me linking everything together as best I can, we're getting to the point where a lot of things are repeating themselves. This is a summary of the revealed rules for 8th Edition 40K. It will also be a page here, which will be continually updated as more information comes in. I will link my previous articles, so you can have a bit more of an in-depth analysis (using Logic and Reason). Here's a snapshot of the Core Rules, as found on miniwars : Core Gameplay Movement Phase (As above) Psychic Phase Psykers roll 2d6, and match or beat a Casting Level for each power Psyker can cast as many powers as datasheet says it can. Some powers have extra effects for rolling well. Deny the with rolls can only be done by Psykers. Shooting Phase BS table is gone, replaced with just a To Hit roll. Cover saves add +1 to save rolls Charging Units that charge hit first. A
