How to get ready for 9th Edition, and the Return of the Police

Image
Sufficiently hyped up for 9th Edition, it's time to do what any self-respecting hobbyist would do, and start a brand new army for the edition! I respect myself so much I fully intend to give myself more work to do! I miss Judge Dreadnought Hello chaps and chapettes, we're back in the classroom to talk about what things you can do to prepare for 9th Edition. And here it is: Just wait. Literally anything you do will be countered by the new rules changes.  All right, so make sure to leave a comment on the way ou- Okay, it's not the best idea in the world to just wait it out. It's usually a good way to drive yourself nuts with anticipation, and you'll way over spend when the Edition drops as you rush out to take advantage of the latest rules hack to come out. And that will end up getting FAQ'd out of existence a week later, so you will have spent a load of money to enact a strategy that you don't fully understand and probably won't ever get to use. So what ...

Kill Team Guide: Tips and Tricks for Primaris Space Marines

Image
Primaris Marines do two things well; take a hit and be easy to collect . They might not be as flash as Tacticals or as unique as Scouts, but they'll be a strong anvil to throw at the enemy. And they do have their own tips and tricks too! In talking about the units in detail I run the risk of reproducing the  Core manual , which then skirts dangerously close to copy write infringement. As such I will try to include as many details as needs to be clear, but if you want more you will need to buy the book. What will be included is: Name of the unit Different models in that unit (maximum number in brackets) Wargear options (but keep in mind they can’t carry everything at once!) Abilities Specialisations Any other important pieces will be included in the analysis itself. Right, let’s get started. Intercessor Models: Intercessor, Intercessor Gunner (2), Intercessor Sergeant (1) Wargear: Bolt rifle, Bolt pistol, Frag and Krak grenades, auto-bolt rifle, Stalk...

Kill Team Guide: What you need to know about Space Marine Scouts and Tacticals

Image
Space Marines have a frighteningly broad range of strategies available to them, as you would expect from a Faction which needs to contain quite a few Chapter themes and identities (close combat Blood Angels and sneaky shooty Raptors as opposite combat styles come to mind). I’ve written way more than I wanted to on this post, so settle in… this is going to be a long one. And we’re only covering Scouts and Tactical Marines! In talking about the units in detail I run the risk of reproducing the Core manual , which then skirts dangerously close to copy write infringement. As such I will try to include as many details as needs to be clear, but if you want more you will need to buy the book. What will be included is: Name of the unit Different models in that unit (maximum number in brackets) Wargear options (but keep in mind they can’t carry everything at once!) Kill Team Guide: Understanding Space Marine Tactics

Image
We’re kicking off our look at the Space Marines by analysing their tactics first, before we get into speaking specific units. I’ve written way more than I intended to on this topic, so settle in! The tactics for the Space Marines fall into two general categories: general ones usable by anybody and model specific tied to a particular model. Whilst it might look like they have more Tactics than other factions on the surface, the majority are quite situational, and you’ll probably be looking to use the Basic Tactics first. General Tactics Tactic: Death to the Traitors Use when you select a model to fight in the Fight phase To hit rolls of 6+ result in an extra attack against that model Only useable against Heretic Astartes Cost: 1CP This is a similar, more restricted version of the Zealot tactic. I’ve gone over that one already in the Zealot specialisation post and the same criticism applies here. It’s not one I’d spend precious CP on, unless I had tooled u...

Primaris Space Marine Field Police Inceptor Gallery

Image
I be sick. Beyond man-flu sick, to actual sick. This is why I haven't updated the blog in a few days. That's not to say I took time of school work willingly. It got to Thursday before my boss threatened to call in sick for me, and drag me off to the school medical centre. So I took that day off. I snuck in on Friday though, and taught my classes. If you're wondering why, setting and marking cover work is just not worth the day off. Anyway, last week I finished off my Space Marine Field Police Inceptors. Here they are: The pose on the right Inceptor was a structural decision more than an artistic one. The poor guy kept slipping off of his mounting, so I glued him in by the foot as well. Makes for a lovely dynamic pose. I've spent way too much time writing up back story for these guys, but they finally have the mesh between fluff (lore), crunch (rules), and style (painting) that I've been looking for. I'll let you know what that is soon....

Space Marine Field Police Captain Gallery

Image
Meet Judge-Captain Vimes, known for his stone faced demeanour and tremendous ability to teach the spirit as well as the letter of the law to recruits. He also famously lectures new Patrol Marines on the correct method of walking. With the snow outside stopping any thought of undercoating my Eldar Rangers , I've returned to finish off my lovely Space Marine Field Police . I have, perhaps, spent far too long thinking up lore and back story for my custom chapter, but I think the results have been worth it. Nos es Lex. I haven't done any of the trademark hazard stripes yet, but I think I'll only do them on the pistol this time. Until next time! Thanks for reading. If you liked what you saw, and you want to help out, please leave a comment. Sharing this with your friends, and following me on Twitter , Facebook or Google+ would also be hugely appreciated. If you have anything you want me to look at, let me know in the comments below. I'll p...

Brother Fett, The Bounty Hunter Space Marine

Image
Yay! We just passed 100,000 page views! Thank you all for making that possible! To show my gratitude, here's the promised picture of my Space Marine Primaris Reiver work in progress; Brother Fett: Brother Fett, Bounty Hunter Primaris Space Marine The Bounty Hunters go after wanted individuals, and bring them back... Dead or Alive.  Nothing but death stops them, and they view the end of enforcing the law to justify any means. Nos es Lex! Tabletop Engineer asked me about the hazard stripes on his knees. Well, hazard stripes are for dangerous surfaces and weapons. Brother Fett uses anything at his disposal... What do you think Boba? "Where's my cheque?" Er... in the mail. Until next time. Thanks for reading. If you liked what you saw, and you want to help out, please leave a comment.
