Suspicious activity: New Ork Boyz kit inbound?

Image
I have a spare few minutes waiting for my Scarf catalogue to print out, and just popped on over to see how Orktober is going. I have to admit I was underwhelmed by the orkiness of the month until about a week ago. Now with Klan Kultures revealed and new trukks and gubbinz leaking all over the interwebz, I feel my WAAAAGGHHH!!! rising in a way only fandom marketing and advertising can do. Well done Games Workshop Ad' Ladz! What's caught my eye is the sudden disappearance of Boyz from the Games Workshop website . Even the Start Collecting Kit has vanished, and so I'm guessing some new kit is inbound. This would explain why the ork Kill Team box set has featured Burna Boys, instead of the standard Troops choice everyone else gets. The good side? Well, new models are always nice and the old kits were rather busy models for a horde army. Not a bad thing to have detail on a model, but for a  model that actually might die to a lasgun shot it was an awful...

Holiday Game: Blood Bowl!

Image
On holiday now, which means I can play games with someone who's already finished their GCSEs! Blood Bowl for now, but later today we plan to play test the new edition 40K. Stay tuned! Human's technically won on points, but forfeited the game to the Orks as there were only three of them left on the field. WAAAAGGHHH!! Thanks for reading. Daemon Tau and The Busiest Corner of the Galaxy

Image
Oddly enough Warzone Damocles, about as far from Holy Terra as you can get, is probably the most hotly contested area of the galaxy. And that's not just because it used to be on fire. A few days ago, Games Workshop released some information on this warzone, and it's future in the unfolding plot of the new Warp Rift divided Milky Way. It turns out the Cicatrix Maledictum doused the fires that the AdMech had started in a fine display of rage-quitting the fight for Mugalath Bay. In case you're wondering which side I'm on in this contest: Farsight Enclave Tau were my first army... before I realised how badly it curb stomped my student neophytes, prompting me to look for less awesome forces. It looks like the Tau are back on the offensive, what with the Imperium needing to fight off Chaos, Tyranids, Necrons, and the good old Orks who Commander Farsight made his name clearing off of Tau worlds. This makes the Damocles Gulf the busiest part of the Milk...

BREAKING NEWS: 648 Lasguns to Kill a Morkanaut!

Image
That's a lot of Guardsmen... Games Workshop revealed their monstrous creature/large vehicle format, giving us the stat block for the Morkanaut: Taken from Warhammer Community I'm not going to go into further analysis why there are damage tables, as I've already done so here . However, a lot of people were complaining about how lasguns could now kill a Land Raider, so I thought I'd do some quick maths to show that they probably have nothing to worry about. Assuming the average lasgun retains it Strength 3, and no rend profile, and assuming the average Guardsman still has an effective Ballistic Skill of 3, we get the following table: Lasgun shots Hits Wounds After Saves Shots to Death 1 0.5 0.083333 0.027777778 648 This shows the average shot from a lasgun hitting half the time, resulting in about 0.08 wounds per shot (assuming a worst case scenario of needing 6s to wound). After saves this goes d...

What? Don't you go to concerts attended by small anime mice girls and rat american football teams where the head lining band performs out of a Lego Wall-E stomach? Rock on dudes! Thanks for reading. Army Showcase and Painting Guide: Purple Orks

Image
So, my surprise project has been my Grape Ladz, an army of purple painted orks. I'm particularly proud of the Squiggoth  As you can see, their camo blends really well with the city scape. I was so pleased with the effect, I thought I'd let you in on my secret painting techniques. First you need a high quality miniature paint. I'm a big fan of the Citadel range, but my son has been raving about this particular brand, and I can absolutely see why. Nice big pots too You can't fault this range for price... this whole set only cost 4 pounds! Speaking of good value, I also picked up this fine detail brush: You can fit your mini in the hole to prevent it running away I know what you're thinking... why isn't he using a wet palette? This brush is so good it stores a huge amount of water across the entire tip. Which means you rarely, if ever have to dip your brush into the water pot. Speaking of water, I've ben using the best new product fro...

Resisting the Grim Dark in 40K

Image
Laying down the law in the Grim Dark future of the 41st Millenium I n these turbulent times of political unrest , en masse immigration of xenos and the fall of treasured institutions , it can be hard not to feel the grim dark pull of the 40K universe. As Eldar start to push their way to Macragge, and Chaos get down to having a really good celebration over Cadia exploding, this Time of Ending in the galaxy can lead people to some very dark and depressing army themes. This is not unusual. Ever since the conception of 40K, the crazy metal themes of the past have been moving ever more into the Serious Business of dark and gritty stories. Whereas before we had Black Ork Rockers, we now have Grey Knights smearing themselves with the blood of Sisters of Battle. In the past, Harlequins would graffiti Land Raiders for the lulz, and now they are sober and determined fighters of Chaos, presumably trading in their spray cans for "cutting political satire which you wi...
