How to get ready for 9th Edition, and the Return of the Police

Image
Sufficiently hyped up for 9th Edition, it's time to do what any self-respecting hobbyist would do, and start a brand new army for the edition! I respect myself so much I fully intend to give myself more work to do! I miss Judge Dreadnought Hello chaps and chapettes, we're back in the classroom to talk about what things you can do to prepare for 9th Edition. And here it is: Just wait. Literally anything you do will be countered by the new rules changes.  All right, so make sure to leave a comment on the way ou- Okay, it's not the best idea in the world to just wait it out. It's usually a good way to drive yourself nuts with anticipation, and you'll way over spend when the Edition drops as you rush out to take advantage of the latest rules hack to come out. And that will end up getting FAQ'd out of existence a week later, so you will have spent a load of money to enact a strategy that you don't fully understand and probably won't ever get to use. So what ...

The New Intercessor Veterans Unit Explained! Analysis of their abilities and more

Image
You know, I think Eldar players have every right to be annoyed right now... the Imperium keeps on nicking their stuff. Let me explain... Hello chaps and chapettes, we're back in the classroom to discuss the Eldarification of the Space Marines, and what we can look forward to from the new Intercessor Veterans!  I'm only half joking about the Imperium nicking Eldar ideas and applying it to new models. Primaris Aspect Marines was a joke way back in the beginning of 8th Edition, and I even pointed out some of the similarities (much to the casual disgust of the internet). And I can't be the only one who is marvelling at the new AdMech Swooping Hawk: I'm certainly not comparing the aesthetic of these guys to what's come before, but I think we can definitely draw some parallels to an aeldari unit.  You probably know which one. Yeah that one. If you didn't know already: Now clearly the new Primaris aren't dead souls locked inside tough robot constructs, but I am g...

Is 9th Edition heading towards Psyker Primaris Space Marine Chapters? The new Starter Set Explained!

Image
Okay, this sounds insane but hear me out.  Hello chaps and chapettes, I'm here in the classroom to discuss an idea I can't let go of after spending too much time thinking about Assault Intercessors. I did a bit of post-writing research to make sure what I was saying was useful an relevant, and came across a Bell of Lost Souls article, which had a bunch of pictures from the leaked 9th Edition starter set. Regardless of whether or not this is the starter set, I was looking at the pictures, and a gnawing suspicion started. And the caffeine fuelled haze after too long creating distance learning lessons set in; I blame the drugs and lack of sleep for this tin foil hattery. I think we might be looking at some newly made Primaris psykers units.  Lets look at some pictures to see why: And  And... And And... And... And the grainy ones... Notice anything weird? Notice the full skeleton torso as opposed to just a skull appearing on a lot of these models? Did you also notice the ...

The new Assault Intercessor Analysis

Image
Hello chaps and chapettes, it looks like we have a(nother) new unit for the Space Marine roster, the Assault Intercessor! Yay? Sorry, I actually am kind of excited about these guys, but as they are now just falls short of what I was expecting and would have liked. There are various images of them out there now: From  Warhammer Community With some more images over there which are not so easy to copy across. The information leaked around and disseminated is that they have chain swords (you don't say...), and one other bit of information given out by Games Workshop is the heavy bolt pistol. If you thought this made the Reiver now completely redundant and dead in the water... yeah you'd be pretty much right. Apart from the niche outflanking/deep striking kind of annoying harassment unit, and the even more niche Leadership bomb set up, they have lost their one saving grace; cheap non-power weapon close combat attacks. I really loved the idea of Reivers way back when they were fir...

BREAKING NEWS: New Warhammer 40K 9th Edition video released

Image
Well not really breaking news, but I'm playing catch up and I like to think I add something beyond just click bait news. Hello chaps and chapettes, we're back in the classroom to discuss a recent video release for the new edition. You know how video games and movies release trailers to get you all hyped up. Well Games Workshop have released a trailer for 9th Edition to get you all hyped up. And it works too. Go watch it now on Warhammer Community , then come back here for the analysis. Or stay and watch the embedded version here! We start with Guardsmen doing what they do best, holding the Emperor's damn line, and getting one shot killed by literally anything else in the 40K universe. Now I'm sure you've noticed the "controversial" or "progressive" addition to this trailer. And I'm right with you on this one. I know exactly how you feel about the inclusion of the female Guardsman. And I for one won't stand for it. Everyone knows that fe...

Getting back in the saddle, and a YouTube

Image
Reports of my death have only been slightly exaggerated... The last year was very difficult in terms of school life, and if anyone is a teacher you'll probably know why. The Teacher's Pension Scheme issues, schools in the UK dropping off the registered charity status and such had people scrabbling around trying to keep heir jobs... yeah, it wasn't fun. Not that it affected my job security, being a Housemaster, Physics teacher, Duke of Edinburgh Coordinator, Warhammer coach, and general nerd teacher. In fact, I got promoted! But still, it was very busy. Abyway, I'm looking to get back into blogging, and so I'm starting off with a mild ramble about Space Wolves and Aggressors. Enjoy! Thanks for reading. If you liked what you saw, and you want to help out, please leave a comment. Sharing this with your friends, and following me on Twitter , Facebook or Google+ would also be hugely appreciated. If you have anything you want me to look at, let me kn...

Remembrance Day 2018

Image
It's 11th of November, and the 100 year Anniversary of the end of Word War 1. The tradition here in the UK is to wear poppies and lay wreathes of the flower on various memorials dotted around the country, as a way of paying respects to soldiers who gave their lives during both World Wars in particular and and solider who has lost their life in service in general. It's a sombre cultural event, and is usually about the tragedy of war and the importance of keeping peace. Paper poppy sales go on to fund veteran charities and such. Last year I "converted" two Games Workshop Models, stripping them of weapons in place of being flower holders. To this day they stand in the front of my classroom, holding their poppies up. It's important for those of us who push around plastic soldiers and entertain ourselves with stories of war and combat to remember that our table top fantasy is built on a foundation of utter catastrophe. These models are a reminder th...
