Happy Birthday Blog: 200th Post!

Image
Yay me! So yesterday I reached my 200th post on the blog. Had I been paying attention, I would have written something a little better than a simple joke on how some teasers and pictures look like gardening equipment, but there we go! Also, somewhat ironically, I'm writing this post at another parents evening... just like the previous birthday post. First parent. Here goes! Well that was quick. Let's do some stats to see how far we've come. Post count: 200 Days active: 157 Posts per day: 1.27 Previous posts per day: 1.7 Not surprising really, as I've had the last two weekends off, but the post count per day has gone down. It will continiue to drop as well, as we get into higher numbers, but as long as the counts per day stays above 1, I'll count it as good. Total page views: 5257 Views per day: 33 Views per post: 22 Prev. per day: 24 Prev. per post: 14 A bit of improvement here, which is good. The scale of increase has been n

CONFIRMED: GWs New Tabletop Farming Game

Image
I'll be honest... the pieces were always right there in front of us. I don't usually like to jump to conclusions and make an ass out of myself with wild speculation, but this bit of evidence is just so compelling, I had to post it. Rumour Engine picture from Warhammer Community Clearly this is some kind of Chaos plough. This further evidence confirms it... a scythe for the Harvesting phase of the game, taken from the Death Guard teaser trailer , which is clearly just a red herring. We can safely confirm the upcoming release of Games Workshop's table top farming game; Nurgle's Garden. I predict plant progression mechanics borrowed from Gorkamorka (because orks are basically fungus, so they develop the same as plants), and that Tzeentch players will receive negative modifiers to everything. Next time: Other breaking news about completely made up products. Thanks for reading. If you liked what you saw, and you want to help out, plea

New Dawn Flotilla: Outcast Shining Spear Prototype

Image
Laptop still dead, but nothing stops the Tabletop Teacher Train*! Here's a picture of the prototype for my Outcat Shining Spears. Shining Spear Outcast Warrior Rather than have traditional Aspect Warriors, I'm making all my specialist troops different factions from the Eldar race. The New Dawn Flotilla is a motely collection of ships that have broken away from the Lugganath Craftworld, in search of a new path for the Eldar to reclaim their future. These Shining Spears, along with some Warp Spiders, are part of a trophy hunting corsair group, out to hunt the biggest and strongest creatures out there. Why? Because after a few hundred years of floating through space, you'd be bored too. I particularly like his flaming spear, but absolutely hate the paint on the skin. It's a little too pale. Does anyone have any suggestions on making a more tanned tone? Until next time! * Reports, Broken Laptops, Anniversaries, Birthdays and Mother's Day a

New Dawn Flotilla: Outcast Shining Spears

Just a quick one today, as my laptop has died a fiery death. Here's a picture of some Sining Spear aspect warriors I kit bashed out of some Dark Eldar Reaver Jetbikes. Thanks for reading. New Dawn Flotilla: Eldar Farseer

Image
Bleh. I am slipping from my daily schedule. What can I say? Reports, a wedding anniversary and Mother's Day all collapsed into a singularity of time, meaning none was left for hobbying, let alone blogging. Here's a picture of my completed Eldar Farseer though. I debated about the gold runes on orange armour for a long time, but I think the heavy shading around the runes makes them stand out enough. Dreadnought Duo and Reports

Image
Ugh, report season. I have about 50 of them to complete by tomorrow morning, so no blog post. Here's a picture of two dreadnoughts to tide you over. Thanks for reading. Are Jetbikes better than Guardians?

Image
It's been a good long time since I've done any Mathhammer, and I've got a stylistic decision to make for my aeldari. I recently bought Gangs of Commoragh, and after completely failing to get a regular game going, I'm thinking of converting the Reavers and Hellions into Craftworlder proxies. Before anyone mentions the Ynnari, I'm not a fan of death cults. I'll stick to my own New Dawn Lugganath faction thanks, and try for a future which doesn't involve getting souls eaten by a god of any kind. I currently have an smallish army of scatterbikes and Guardians, backed up by Farseer and a Fire Prism.... basically the contents of the start collecting box plus a bit. I want to replace the guardians with some shuriken catapult armed windrunners, and I think the Reavers would do for  nice corsair themed unit. However, being the insatiable numberphile I am, I can't help but wonder if this is optimal, and dare I say... efficient. So, let's do s

Painting Guide: Perfect Hazard Stripes

Image
One of the things I had to work on for the Space Marine Police Force was the hazard stripes on their bolters. Whilst it may seem like an arbitrary aesthetic choice taken from the Iron Warriors, this is actually a throw back to their Rogue Trader origins. The original SMFP had a stripe down his head. I found that it didn't translate so well on the more modern power armours, so I left it off the helmet. To keep it tied in, I needed to think what a military force all about procedure and public good would do... so I put the hazard stripes on all their weapons: It makes sense to me that these Marines would have these warning signs out on these dangerous tools. I imagine them walking across the battlefield shouting "Stop or I'll shoot!" before every volley, more interested in taking combatants into custody and due process than bloodshed. This also led to the decision to ring the bikes with hazard stripes as well: After all, a citiz

New Colour Scheme for Tau Crisis Suits

Image
I've somewhat overdone it with my Tau Farsight Enclave tournament list. Whilst I can see the holes to poke in it, the list is somewhat too difficult for my student neophytes to break. Because of that, they're sitting on the shelf for now, whilst the students have a bit more fun munching up my Space Marine Field Police (which have far more holes). Before they went into exile, which is very fitting for a Farsight Enclave, I gave them a bit of a revamped colour scheme. Enjoy! Blue and ochre! Literally 4 base colours on this... would not recommend for any horde army! Riptide embarrassingly unpainted Charlie's (Tau) Angels Until next time! Thanks for reading. Police Bike, and Taking the Weekend Off

Image
Apologies for this, but I'm taking this weekend off of writing the blog. I'm 167 posts in, and have been continuously updating every day since I started last year. Time for a break I think! But I feel bad, so here's a picture of a Space Marine Field Police bike. Space Marine Field Police bike Enforcing traffic law, as only an astartes can. Thanks for reading. The Long Plot of the Duardin Reveal Part 2

Image
So let's jump into matching up rumour engine pictures with reveals, and see where this whole story begins. First the obvious one: This was revealed to be a part of a larger piece of work showing a greater demon in mid-sky battle with a Kharadron air-ship. Not a mecha suit like I hoped, but of equal steampunk silly-awesomeness. This piece was one of the first rumour engine picture to released:  We can now identify this as anything from the Skyriggers to any of the ships. What bugs me about it is tat I can't find any exact matches in the pictures below. Either the bits are just on the other side of the models, or there are more minis waiting to be revealed. See for yourself if there's anything I've missed. Here's an easy one!  What I thought may have been an exodite spear turns out to be a Duardin boat hook. The next ones are all frustratingly close to being part of the reveal, but not identified in the models seen:

Armies on Parade

Image
It's been another grueling day at work, and I've only just finished (it being 11pm now). This week refuses to let up, but on the upside, I got to meet John Tickle today! As I finally give in to my wife's demands for me to go to bed, you guys get some pictures of student neophyte armies on parade. Enjoy! Until next time. Thanks for reading. BREAKING: The Long Plot of the Duardin Reveal Part 1

Image
*Glee!* So the new Duardin have dropped, and damnned if they refused to hit the ground! The traditionally under-mountain Dwarfs in their halls of stone have turned into metal clad sky-pirates, riding sky boats, and even having jump troops! This is the first part of a double post, and gives the initial impressions of the models and the reveal video. The second post will look at what clues we had leading up to this reveal. Whilst I'm still holding out hope for dwarven mecha, I'm more than happy to throw money at Games Workshop for these new models (pictured below). Arkanaut Ironclad - The big ship Arkanaut Frigate - The middle ship Grundstok Gunhauler - The fighter jet? The ships look straight out of steampunk fantasies, and still retain a bit of their old dwarven flair. We haven't seen the points for these ships, but I wonder if we can expect to see these as flotillas rather than center-piece models. These are probably the most unique of the
