9th Edition Newcrons Explained!

Image
I remember when Necrons only had Warriors... and no fluff. I also remember Chaos Necrons. Such things are weird in modern 40K. Hello chaps and chapettes, we're back in the classroom to discuss the new 9th Edition models for Necrons (apart from the Skorpehk Destroyer which I talk about here ). There has been a glut of new models for the Necrons released, and probably about time too. Let's just do a side by side comparison of the update ones before looking at the new: From Sprues and Brews And the old ones: From Games Workshop Webstore Interesting thing from this is the movement away from the clear plastic tubes that Necrons used to have as an exclusive and faction determining trait. Why? Well, customisation of course. The old green plastic pretty much locked you into a particular colour pallette, which meant Your Dudes always had at least one thing in common with Other Players Dudes. Or at least that is the benefit to you. For Games Workshop it means they can r...

First Look: Skorpehk Destroyer Analysis!

Image
Can I make a whole blog post of extrapolation from a single data point? You bet I can! Hello chaps and chapettes, we're back in the classroom to look at the latest reveal from Warhammer Community, and vastly overthink a single stat block to predict the future. I know it feels like we never leave the classroom, and that's because updates come thick and fast in this Warhammer world. Here's the fella in question: Intimidating, and wielding a very big glowing sword. On three legs. War of the Worlds meets Breath of the Wild! I very much like the design, but we're here to think about how this is going to affect your game. We have a nice stat block to look over too, which will tell you everything you need to know about this guy. Ouch. No seriously, ouch.  That Hyperphase Reap-blade effectively a Thunder Hammer wielded by a Guardsmen, and that's assuming the base model is strength 4. With a build like that we could easily be looking at a base strength of 5 for that guy, m...

9 things we know about 40K 9th Edition Part 1: Rules polish Explained!

Image
I believe there's a terrible affliction that strikes any 40K player/creator that leads them towards terrible puns. That's also a heck of a title to say in one go. Image yoikned from Spiky Bits, which they yoinked from Warhammer Community Hello chaps and chapettes, we're back in the classroom to look at the slight glimpses into what 9th Edition has to offer. James Workshop, the great figurehead of our favourite plastic addiction, talks about the 9 updates we can expect for 9th Edition, which you will probably read about 9 times. As an aside, I genuinely think Games Workshop missed a trick here by having the Necrons as the big bad guy. I spoke about some tin foil hattery as to why, the entire argument boiling down to marketing symmetry, but it really should have been a Tzeentchian update. His number is 9, and it would have made some cool sense to have Thousand Sons being the bad guys in the Starter box set (wrestling control from Nurgle).  However, it may well be that Tzeent...

Is 9th Edition heading towards Psyker Primaris Space Marine Chapters? The new Starter Set Explained!

Image
Okay, this sounds insane but hear me out.  Hello chaps and chapettes, I'm here in the classroom to discuss an idea I can't let go of after spending too much time thinking about Assault Intercessors. I did a bit of post-writing research to make sure what I was saying was useful an relevant, and came across a Bell of Lost Souls article, which had a bunch of pictures from the leaked 9th Edition starter set. Regardless of whether or not this is the starter set, I was looking at the pictures, and a gnawing suspicion started. And the caffeine fuelled haze after too long creating distance learning lessons set in; I blame the drugs and lack of sleep for this tin foil hattery. I think we might be looking at some newly made Primaris psykers units.  Lets look at some pictures to see why: And  And... And And... And... And the grainy ones... Notice anything weird? Notice the full skeleton torso as opposed to just a skull appearing on a lot of these models? Did you also notice the ...

BREAKING NEWS: New Warhammer 40K 9th Edition video released

Image
Well not really breaking news, but I'm playing catch up and I like to think I add something beyond just click bait news. Hello chaps and chapettes, we're back in the classroom to discuss a recent video release for the new edition. You know how video games and movies release trailers to get you all hyped up. Well Games Workshop have released a trailer for 9th Edition to get you all hyped up. And it works too. Go watch it now on Warhammer Community , then come back here for the analysis. Or stay and watch the embedded version here! We start with Guardsmen doing what they do best, holding the Emperor's damn line, and getting one shot killed by literally anything else in the 40K universe. Now I'm sure you've noticed the "controversial" or "progressive" addition to this trailer. And I'm right with you on this one. I know exactly how you feel about the inclusion of the female Guardsman. And I for one won't stand for it. Everyone knows that fe...

Painting Guide on Faces and Skin

Image
I done another YouTube, but the summary for great skin is here: Ceramite Wite Wash with Reiklnd Fleshshade Highlight with flesh tone of choice For eyes and detailed faces, remember to not be afraid about going back and fixing any mistakes with your highlight colour (with a demonstration in the video). As a blog reader only tip (because you guys are awesome), when using your contrast paints instead of the above method, make sure you always highlight in a traditional way. This will let you clean up any detailing errors without having to do the whole section again. Thanks for reading. If you liked what you saw, and you want to help out, please leave a comment. Sharing this with your friends, and following me on Twitter , Facebook or Google+ would also be hugely appreciated. If you have anything you want me to look at, let me know in the comments below. I'll probably be able to write an article about that topic within a day! If you want to support me directly...

Bonus article: Blood Angel Anti-armour for Spoonlamp

Image
I’m trying to stick to a lower but consistent blog schedule, usually taking Tuesday, Thursday and the weekend off. However, I’m always eager to respond to reader requests and Spoonlamp had this question: "I know you've been concentrating on Killteam lately,  but any thoughts on scalable anti-armour for Blood Angels? Hellblasters v Dev squad? Redemptor Dread v Pred?" It’s a good question, and the answer is largely the same for any Space Marine force. As of now Hellblasters are your best bet for anti-armour, but that comes with a few conditions. In general with Blood Angels your best options are going to be melta-gun Assault Marines or any close combat unit with a power fist. However, we'll look at the traditional anti-armour options with this post. Hellblaster Hellblasters with their plasma incinerators offer the best balance between offence and defence for a Blood Angel player. They’re twice as tough as Devastators (quite literally… double the Wounds), an...

Aeldar New Year: Guardian to Ranger Conversion

Image
Chinese New Year is this week, and my wife and I are busy getting ready for it (new clothes, roasted pork, roasted duck, lucky money packets etc.). As you can imagine from the total lack of new posts, hobby time is extremely limited, but I have two or three nice things set aside for this week. My All Female Astra Militarum Regiment have been performing a little too well against my School Club members, to the point where they're genuinely afraid of facing them in School Alliance match-ups. With terror of teacher's army of skill in 40K achieved, I'm going back to some other armies, to soften any games they have against me in the future. So I chose Eldar Craftworlds. Some of you are already laughing. Whilst I'm hammering out another list to inspire (fear) and challenge my student neophyte players, I already have some small modelling challenges of my own to sort out. Put simply, I want some Rangers to form my Troops choices. It's fairly understandable as to w...
