This week in Warhammer 18/02/17
Awesome new title card |
Let's start off with a bit of general news before going into specific bits.
Rumour engine latest
With the tag line "this looks a bit grim", it could be any number of things. Speculation starts with something from the Death faction of Age of Sigmar, but only a cursory look at 40K will show you just how much the skull icon is used across all of Games Workshop products.
That said, as it looks a lot like a grave stone, I'm going to suggest it hints at some new Death faction miniature.
Warhammer 40K
Last chance for Fantasy Flight 40K games
This post on the Twitters from FF games gives us a hard deadline on when we can last pick up their great board games with the Games Workshop IP. February 28th is your last chance to get Conquest or the Warhammer Quest card game. After that, it's going to be inflated eBay prices, or lucky finds in your Friendly Local Game Store.
Latest Imperial Anti-Eldar Propaganda
Following up from their Peta inspired anti-fur post, Regimental Standard gives us another take down piece on the Visarch. This time they point out the serious character flaws behind the Visarch, as he clearly must have been looting many corpses to get some many features from different Eldar factions in his armour.
It's absolutely understandable that they's write such anti-xenos propaganda, but I'm really looking forward to what they have to say about a certain rising Primarch!

The Fall of Malvolion - Mordian Iron Guard Novel by Dan Abnett
Dan Abnett of Gaunt's Ghosts fame, has penned another Imperial Guard 40K novel. I know that the Horus Heresy series is all the rage these days, but you may want to give some of the more modern novels a look. Especially this guy. He's awesome.
This one is about the Mordian Iron guard, known for having sticks up their bums and generally giving the Space Marines lessons in knowing no fear.

Warhammer Age of Sigmar
Tactical tool box charging
Some more free support the Games Workshop marketing team is churning out these days, this is a very comprehensive run through of the charge mechanics in AoS. Well worth the read.
What's particularly good about this is that Games Workshop is no longer relying on word of mouth and White Dwarf to help their customers play the game better. Better support for players will mean less need for long FAQs and rules debates in the long run.
On the other hand, this does mean the meta (a dirty word for some Warhammer players) will evolve faster. I'm okay with that, as it will keep things fresh and interesting for longer without massive rules changes and new editions.

New Stormcast Battletomes hit shelves soon
Chances are you already knew this but in case you're still on the fence about picking it up, Bell of Lost Souls has done their usual pre-game screenshots on some of the new formations and equipment. Not to be outdone, Warhammer Community has also put up some.
I sometimes wonder if Games Workshop marketing does this to undercut fan news sites, and dropping the two official videos of Guiliman's return a week or two ago was suspiciously quick after some White Dwarf pictures were leaked to people online. Let's keep an eye on that in the future...
Just going to say what everyone is thinking... each Stormcast chamber getting their own rules is just more of the Space Marine flagship race treatment we would expect to get heaped on the Sigmarines. Nothing new there.
Horus Heresy
Inferno released this weekend
Order it here. Finally some specific rules for Thousand Sons and Space Wolves, as well as a bundle on the ancillary factions of the Imperium. Always worth a look, and makes for a nice looking collection on your bookshelves.
Blood Bowl
Morg'n'Thorg's back!

Better yet, let me know what great stuff is going on for next weeks post!
Until next time.
